The Lord's Prayer
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. (Luke 11:1)
As a child of God, a born-again Christian, you are called to pray. God Himself wants you to know how to pray. If we don't know how to pray or if we don't want to pray, our Christianity is nothing more than a religion. The power of your Christian life lies on your knees. Whatever you do, if you do not pray, all is in vain. Jesus' disciples desired to know how to pray. They saw Jesus praying but they themselves were not able to pray as effectively as He did. Today many believers truly want to pray but they do not know how to pray and what to say. If you pray according to the pattern taught by Jesus, your prayer time will enlarge, it will be full of power, it will be pleasing to God and bring Him Glory. If you pray as Jesus taught, mercy, grace and power will flow from His throne right to you.
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. (Matthew 6: 9-13) To pray this prayer does not mean to chant it without understanding. The Lord said: After this manner therefore pray ye:
OUR FATHER,
When you are born-again, you can call God your Father. You can recognize Him as the Father of your spirit. Because: "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:24 No sinner can call God their Father, because God becomes your Father only when the Holy Ghost recreates your spirit when you repent from your sins and give your heart completely to Jesus. If you are not born-again, the devil is the father of your spirit. By saying My Father, you recognize God as your very Father. You can say: "Father, I come to you in Jesus' name. I worship you, praise you, and love you, thank you for Jesus . . ." The Almighty God is your Father! Rejoice and be happy! Praise Him!
WHICH ART IN HEAVEN,
Your Father is the Lord of Heaven and the Earth. He created all things. "My Father, your throne is in heaven. Your throne is eternal, You are God. Heaven and the Earth are work of your hands. I worship you, my Father and my God. I bless you and thank you, I adore you, my Father . . ." With your own words you can express your love and adoration to your Father God.
HALLOWED BE THY NAME.
Now you can call God by His names. "My Father, hallowed be your name, may your name be glorified, may your name be exalted. Thank you for making me your child through your Son Jesus Christ . . ."
Throughout the Old Testament God revealed many of His covenant names to Israel. Each of them becomes your covenant guarantee. God cannot deny His name and He is always truthful and faithful to it. When you call His covenant name, you are running into the hiding place, which that very name provides. The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. Proverbs 18:10
You can know God by names such these:
El-Shaddai - God, who is more than enough, the Almighty God. You are God, you are more than enough for me, I worship you. You are more than I need, you are the Almighty, all the time, in all circumstances, you are and you have more than enough for me . . ."
Jireh - God, my Provider.Worship Him knowing that He will provide all that you need. Thank Him for what He has already given you. All that you ever had, all that you have and will ever have is what His hand provides. He keeps on providing for you. Read Genesis 22:1-14
Rapha - God, my Healer. "Jehovah Rapha, I exalt your name, I praise you, my God, my Healer. You are the healer of my spirit, of my soul and my body. I worship you." If you worship His name, Jehovah Rapha, you enter His protection against all diseases and sicknesses. If you know Him by His name - Jehovah Rapha - you cannot be sick. Your God is your Healer. Praise Him and His name. Read Exodus 15:26, Psalm 103:3
Shalom - God, my Peace. Father, you are my peace, I adore you, thank you for peace, which you are giving me . . ." When you start worshipping His name - Jehovah Shalom - climate of peace will envelope you. You will be flooded by peace and quietness. And this is what you need in this troubled world - to be engulfed by supernatural heavenly peace. Read Judges 6:24
Rohi - God, my Shepherd. "I exalt you - Jehovah Rohi - my Shepherd. You are my God; you are my guide, thank you for leading me. You are so good to me. Without you I would be lost . . ." Your Shepherd is your protector. The Lord, your Shepherd, will guard your mind and soul, your heart and your whole life on paths of righteousness, paths of joy and peace. "God, lead my life today, lead my mind, lead my heart . . ." When He leads you, you are safe. He will lead you into His will, where His mighty hand protects you. If the Lord is your Shepherd, you cannot lack anything. Read Psalm 23
Nissi - God, our Banner, our Victory. "I exalt your name, Jehovah Nissi, I give you glory and praise, you are my shield, and without you I am empty and naked. Protect me today, Oh God, cover me . . ." If you worship His name - Jehovah Nissi - you can have assurance in your heart that the Lord fights your battles for you. Read Exodus 17:15 and Psalm 91
Tsidkenu - God, my Righteousness. You are not righteous on your own. God is your righteousness. You don't even try to be righteous. Know God, who is your righteousness. "I exalt you, God - my Righteousness, fill me with your righteousness today, give me righteous thoughts and lead me into your righteousness . . ." There is now no condemna-tion for you, because God Himself is your righteousness. Read Jeremiah 23:6
Jesus knew, what He was talking about, when He said: Hallowed be thy name. When you worship the names of God, you cannot lack any good thing. Jesus kept on advertising the name of His Father. And you are to do just the same. And the only way you can accomplish that is to know His names and daily spend time worshipping God and His names.
THY KINGDOM COME.
When you are born-again, you are born into the Kingdom of God. Jesus Christ is the King. When you reach this place in your prayer, pray for various things. Pray for the Kingdom of God and His ways to come to your life, to your family, to your friends, to different nations and cities. "Father, let your Kingdom come to our land, to our govern-ment, to our school system . . ." Ask God to come as the King into different lives, let Him be the King in our churches etc.
THY WILL BE DONE IN EARTH, AS IT IS IN HEAVEN.
Pray for the will of God to be done in your life, submit to the will of God for your life, ask Him to reveal His will to you, ask Him for His will to be done in our nations, in our cities and families, pray for different people, ask the Lord to save them, because it is His will. Pray for your church and your brethren.
GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY BRED.
Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedet out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4 Now you can thank God for all that He has done for you, for all that He has provided for you, for your life, for your family, for your church, for the Sun, for air you breath, for food you have and water you drink, for your house, for your job. Ask Him to give you bread for this very day - His Word, His peace, His joy, ask Him to meet your needs. Pray for other people too, ask God to give them His bread for that day.
AND FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS.
Open your heart to God; you cannot hide anything from Him. Ask Him to forgive you every sin, all bad things you have done, knowingly or unknowingly. Don't say I have not done anything wrong, please do not. Ask the Lord to forgive you even those things you did without knowing it. As you ask the Lord to forgive you, you yourself forgive all people. If someone hurt you, forgive them, if you did not do it before, even as God forgave you. Forgive them and bless them. It is for your good and it is exactly what God wants you to do. Ask the Lord also to cleanse you and keep you pure by the power of Jesus' Blood.
AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
Ask the Lord to remove all traps of the devil from your path. Ask Him to deliver you from all plans of darkness. Nothing evil planned against you will prosper. But you have to realize that you must avoid tempting yourself. It means that if you know that you may be tempted by alcohol, you better don't go to a bar . . .
FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, AND THE POWER, AND THE GLORY, FOR EVER. AMEN.
Exalt the Lord and acknowledge His sovereign power over all creation, over your life, over your family and all, which concerns you. Give God the glory. He is worthy. Acknowledge Him as the eternal and unchanging God.
As soon as you say Amen after praying this prayer, if you prayed sincerely, know that you touched the Heart of God and your prayer affected both heaven and the earth. You spend as much time as you want by praying like this, enjoy your time with God and do not make it a religious duty. Just know that God hears you and have fellowship with your God - your Father.
